Performances
Grupo Liberdade de Capoeira conducts interactive performances and workshops based on African influenced rhythms and dances originating Brazil.
Brazil is a region known for customs embedded in the traditions and spirituality of ancestral Africa.
The performance group executes works from Afro-Brazilian Folkloric Dances such as Capoeira, Maculele, and Samba.
All featured skits are accompanied by live percussion and traditional instruments and passports to an exciting and engaging performance.
Grupo Liberdade de Capoeira performing artists design programs to suit the needs of the audience and venue. The diverse group of musicians, vocalists, acrobatic dancers
adorned in elaborate and simple costumes conduct lectures, workshops, residencies and demonstrations of the African rooted culture of Brazil in the craving for and overcome of oppression of human rights. It features a performance of Capoeira, an Afro
Brazilian martial art that combines dance, music and acrobatics.
- Maculêlê is a dance with sticks, sometimes performed with machetes or even
fire. Maculêlê originated in the sugar-cane plantation where the slaves, who
used to practice the dance to relieve their anger against slavery. The slaves
used sticks and machetes to rebel against the slave masters punishment, and
practiced Maculêlê in preparation for the rebellion.
- Samba is a traditional Afro-Brazilian dance that has been associated with
Capoeira for many years. Samba is a secular dance found throughout Brazil
today. Samba is a very playful, sensual and flirtatious dance. Samba, known as
Brazil’s ‘national rhythm,’ its prime symbol of cultural nationalism.
OPTIONS:
• Base fee is $1200 for 30-45 minute Capoeira Performance. Performances can
be made to suit the venue and audience’s needs.
• Workshops are available for private classes, groups, families, and special needs
classes
• Additional time for workshops are available at cost upon request
• Additional instructors are required for groups larger than 20 and all special
needs classes
• Residencies, series of workshops, are available. (Normally, multiples of packages of 5 classes.)
