Glossary

Class: A basic capoeira class consists of warmup, movements, sequences, strength/flexibility exercises, music practice, games, or any combination.
Music: A class dedicated specifically to learning and practicing songs and instruments.
Roda: A roda is where capoeristas go to play capoeira.
Batizado: Annual Capoeira Batizados (capoeira baptisms) are special capoeira events that take place to formally introduce new students into the art. Visiting teachers play a capoeira game with the new students for the first time and give them their first belt. They are "baptized" and initiate them into the capoeira community. This is also often where capoeristas get their nickname. Advance students are promoted with new belts to showcase their growth in capoeira.
Workshop: A special guest teacher comes to teach a class.
Party: A celebration of a special occasion, possibly a birthday or anniversary or arrival of the weekend.
Demo: A capoeira demonstration usually at a public or private event to showcase and educate people about capoeira.
